Transportation planning in metropolitan areas is intended to be a collaborative process, led by the Strafford Metropolitan Planning Organization (SMPO), to include stakeholders in the regional transportation system. Involvement from the public and the business community, community groups, and environmental organizations, is a key component to the planning process and to the SMPO 2009-2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan. The goal of the SMPO 2009-2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan is to review existing regional transportation infrastructure, goals, and strategies to determine where the region will be in the year 2035.
